  Dr. Louis RizioDr. Louis Rizio is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon and is fellowship trained in the field of sports medicine. After receiving his medical degree from New Jersey Medical School he completed his orthopaedic residency at Tufts University in Boston. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Miami. During his fellowship he participated in the care of the Miami Dolphins, University of Miami Hurricanes, and the Florida Marlins.

Dr. Rizio practices at the New Jersey Sports Medicine Institute, a multi-specialty musculoskeletal center of excellence. The institute provides the most advanced and innovative care for athletes of all ages and is committed to returning patients to their desired level of activity. Prior to starting his own practice, Dr Rizio was the Chief of Sports Medicine at the NJ Medical School from 2000-2005.

In addition to offering patients the newest techniques to treat sports injuries and cartilage disorders, Dr. Rizio continues to remain on the cutting edge through research and education. Dr. Rizio has received funding to study the effects of cartilage regeneration utilizing adult stem cells and has presented research on the mechanics of shoulder injuries in throwing athletes. He has published several articles and book chapters on sports related injuries; in addition he has lectured nationally and internationally on sports related topics.

Dr. Rizio treats athletes of all ages and activity levels. He specializes in sports injuries of the upper and lower extremity, cartilage repair, and reconstructive procedures of the knee and shoulder. He currently is a professional, college, and high school team physician.
